"Bought my 2000 Focus with 34,000 miles on it. Clean as a pin. One owner. Everything was OK until about 75,000 miles. Here's what I have had to replace between 80,000 and 165,000. New Engine. Cylinder sleeve broke. New Transmission. Went out completely. Entirely new air-conditioning. (Metal shavings from the compressor clogged the entire system.) It all locked up. Evaporator, compresser, Condenser, all shot. All lines clogged. Total price paid for car $9995. Money spend just on MAJOR repairs: $9,000. Have driven it for 7 years. Trying to get to 200,000 without more big money so I can get my money's worth. I love the looks of the car, but man has it been one major problem after another. And I'm real easy on a car. Drive 65 on highway. No fast starts. But it has killed me repair-wise."

"I can't believe these aren't selling any more in the States! This is a fantastic car, carries lots, great mileage, very few problems, a really nice all-around car. Had to push the headrests back to be comfortable, but otherwise has done everything I needed it to do."

"Purchased used with 2 years & 19K miles on it. Easy to drive, comfortable on long hauls, great gas milage, dependable. Only 2 complaints...road noise is pretty loud. And with rear seat in the fold-down position, can't access the floor behind the drivers seat."

"Very reliable, fun little hatchback! Have owned the car for almost 3 years now and have had no major problems. The car runs great, even with 105k miles on it! It has great handling, is fun to drive and accelerates well. Only negative I have with my car is that I think it could get a little bit better gas mileage. Unfortunately I do a lot of in town driving with stop and go, plus I am a little hard on my car, so that probably accounts for part of it. But regardless of that, the car is great. First car I bought after college on my own and I havent regretted it one bit, although my parents thought otherwise! (Parents are always over protective) Great little car, even now that it is 8 years old! I still prefer my 'old' car to my husbands new one!"

"I have driven my 2000 Focus SE Sedan since 2001. After 8 years, it's still a great car. It's reliable, gets excellent gas mileage(25 in town, 30-32 interstate), and I like driving it. I absolutely love my car. I, however, travel alone in the car most of the time and it's a little cramped if anyone has to sit in the back seat since I'm 5'10".

I have had some major repairs, recalls, and some normal wear and tear. The rear wheel bearings were recalled in the first year, the front coil springs were recalled in 2005(?), but I didn't find out about that until one broke this year and Ford replaced both springs. I've replaced the tires numerous times and had some alignment issues. The front break line broke a few years ago, and I've also replaced the brakes, but only once in 100,000 miles. A few weeks ago the key would not turn and the ignition tumber had to be replaced. I was glad to be at home when that happened.

Overall, I've had fewer problems with my Focus than with other cars my husband and I have owned and my Focus is a reliable economical car."

"Purchased this vehicle about 15 months ago (w/57,000 mile on it) from a private party. Could not have made a better choice. PLUS: handles like a sports car...great gas mileage 26 city, 37 highway...comforthale front seats for driving on long trips...Great radio and CD sound...very few CONS...The 2.3L engine has all the power you need...I would suggest changing the transmission oil every 50K and changing the fuel filter as well....I am using a synthetic oil (Valvoline 5W20 Syntec) and change the oil out myself every 7500 miles...I use a top end oil filter (Pureolator PureOne). I just purchased a new set of tires from TireRack (General Altamax HP). These tires have great grip in dry and wet weather & really make a difference from the previous tires that were on the vehicle. I LOVE THIS CAR !"

"I bought my 2007 zx3 2 years ago, and haven't had a single problem with it. Last year I swapped the 2.0l duratec with the mazdaspeed 2.3l duratec and slapped on a bigger turbo, cosworth intake manifold, full 2.5" cat-back exhaust. Ive done some minor engine work, i.e. headwork, cams, pistons. The cars running strong, even with all the work done to it. Im pushing about 320hp to the wheels so thats why performance got a 5. As a track car/street car, it plays the roles very well. I just have to watch myself on speeding =)."

"I do have to say I love the styling of this car and it is fun to drive. We are a family of 5 and we all fit in it snuggly with young kids! We were very happy for the first three years with this car other than changing the oil and replacing the tires we ran in to MAJOR problems with our Transmition problems resulting in A COMPLETE TRANSMITION REBUILD WITH ONLY 43,000 MILES ON THE CAR ABSOLUTELY REDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEWARE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"A good dependable car that will get you from point A to point B with a minimum of fuss.

I have a 2001 Ford Focus and it gets me 25 mpg around town, 28 in the country, 30 - 32 mpg on the interstates. Thus, I have no complaint.

However, if you have long legs, you would have trouble getting four/five passengers into this car. I had five in it once and the backseat passengers were very uncomfortable, hence my rating of 3 stars in Comfort.

Overall, a good dependable car to have."

"I have owned my 2005 Ford Focus for three years now. I purchased it in October 2005. I now have 181,000 miles on my car and I have not had to do any mechanical repairs to it. The only thing I have done is changed the oil and tires. In the past 20,000 miles I have noticed that a squeak has came about in the motor. The heat shield has come loose from around the exhaust. I have had to replace 5 headlights, and the transmission is beginning to act up. Nothing serious but I think it will lead to trouble. I would rate this car at a seven on a 1 to 10. I have taken this car across country several times and i would jump in it today and go again."

"i've owned two foci now, the first being a 2001 zx3 which is still running after 9 years and 130k+ on it's clock. my most current zx3 is a 2005 which i've now owned for about 5 years now.

the only maintenance i've put in to the 2005 zx3 has been routine. tires, oil changes, and brakes. the change to the mazda-sourced duratec engines was a huge plus for ford.

Because ford never updated the focus, save a facelift in the 2005 model year, it's still the original focus. only minor suspension tweaks have been made. that means the original 4-wheel independent suspension still soldiers on. this car really is a hoot to drive if you opt for the manual transmission, and you take it on a twisty road. The engine is biased towards economy, so you need to keep the revs high if you're looking for power. unfortunately, there is a little engine boominess if you're revving beyond 3500-4000 rpm.

i've only purchased hatchbacks because small sedans make no sense at all. i've moved a couple times with both of my zx3's. they hold a ridiculous amount of cargo with the rear seats folded. extremely versatile! i even pulled a uhaul trailer with one of them. i don't recommend ever doing that. trust me.

i read a review discussing it's poor performance in snowy conditions. i will say that snow tires are a must. for less than $250 you can pick up a set of four snow tires. trust me. they are well worth the upfront cost.

one of the only downsides is fuel economy. highway mileage is great - mid 30s easily, even when driving a steady 75 mph. City mileage is deplorable, though. i maybe average 20 mpg on my daily commute of 24 miles round trip. keep in mind the focus only has a 12 gallon tank, so weekly fill-ups are a must.

The other downside is the paint. stupidly, i opted for black. the paint is very weak and the front end is full of small chips from road debris. i always keep it waxed, so the rest of the car has held up only okay. however, keep in the car was only $16k when new...

lastly, the dealer process was horrible both times. it was such a greasy hustle. i would, however, purchase a ford product again. i'm extremely satisfied with both purchases, and am extremely enthused about the new 2011 fiesta."
