"This is the first New car I have bought. My last Japanese car was a 81 Datsun. Then I went American and had nothing but problems. Plus low trade in values. After driving this I will never go back to American cars.
I have 1600 miles on it. So far I am getting 34 MPG in city driving and 41 MPG HWY (from gas station to Hwy only) Overall 36 MPG. It is fun to drive. I love the styling. The pickup though I have to get used to. It is a smaller engine than what I am used to. It takes more time to get up to speed.
I looked at Honda Civics, but for the price difference and looks this is a better deal. I love the dual glove boxes. Plenty of storage. The trunk opening however is small. my cooler won't fit too tall. The clock should be on the stereo, but it is clustered with the temp, mpg etc. Teenagers can sit comfortably in the back without complaining about legroom. Smooth ride. Nice handling around corners.
I have the LE with moon roof. I paid $18,465. options: power moon roof, cruise, key less remote, all-weather package. Well worth it. Very stylish inside. I would recommend this to anyone."

"....KUDOS TOYOTA.!!....... I am totally ecstatic over this fantastic automobile...None better... I being a former 2008 Corolla S owner, noticed as soon as I drove this, newly redesigned 2009 , Corolla LE , the very big improvements in this car... in every aspect of the car...its handling, cushy luxurious ride, very quite and responsive motor, and Automatic Transmission..you could not ask for better performance.also the cabin under way with the windows closed was super quiet..If you did not know you were in a Corolla you would swear you were in a much more expensive luxury car...I have the Moonroof, option, in my LE, I love, now, how it slides so smoothly and effortlessly, either open or closed simply by the momentary touch and release of the button .. unlike the Moonroof my 2008 Corolla "S" had,.. you had to push and hold the button down all the way open and all the way closed....I love this one touch feature... of course the other feature, tilting the roof is really very nice, it ventilates the car, and even still the car remains , very quiet inside..even at freeway speeds..When I drove it home, on the freeway, yesterday, new, from the dealer I had the roof fully open and the car was still very quiet inside, so this in itself will tell you how very quiet riding this car really is... .The Corolla LE.. is in my estimation a Mini-Lexus....I think Toyota has really put a lot of effort into this, Civic .conqueror..I have owned both , Civics and Corollas, I find, every time... the Corolla to be the more refined of the two by far.. As I drive the roads I notice these two cars in particular, and I also find that I see more Corollas out there than Civics..with a large majority being Corolla "S" Models... I just want to say to anyone thinking of either car, please chose the Corolla....you will not be disappointed , actually speaking you will be very pleased with yourself..I am a Toyota Customer ... I do not work for Toyota....so this an assessment of the car, by a customer..I thought it important to mention that.."

"I bought this car when they first came out. I was really interested in getting some better gas mileage than my Toyota Tundra. I get 36 MPG on mixed driving that consists of mainly HWY driving. I am stoked on the mileage and the car overall. Toyota and Honda are the best! I like the interior and the seats. The trunk has good space and the material is acceptable. I also like the power of the engine when needed. I have an AT, and it seems to have enough pep...I am used to a V8... I am not too excited about the clock readout as other reviewers have indicated and I have noticed a rattle in the dashboard by the speedometer. Got to get that checked...but noticed that rattles are not covered in the warranty... Overall, this is a nice car for the price and I would recommend it to anyone."

"Bought the car in late May and noticed the first time I drove at highway speeds that the car will not hold a straight line and tends to drift randomly. I attributed this to downsizing from a truck to a small car for fuel economy. I recently drove the car on a 1,000 mile road trip and am very disappointed in how the car drifts and gets blown all over the road at highway speeds. My next trip to the dealer will have the alignment checked to see if that might be the cause.
Other than the drift at speed the quality of the car is very good, highway mileage is around 35, very good AC, no fit and trim issues. I do wish I had opted for the "S" package for a bit sportier car."

"This car has numerous rattles and vibrations, seat belts on both sides in divider, display guage in dash has 2, 2 in right dash and 2 in back seat area. Car now has 2700 miles and still deleloping new rattles. Very disappointed in Toyota's interior quality. Hoping the motor and drivetrain are much better! This is my seventh new car (second Toyota) and this car rattles more than all the others combined."

"Not far from mid-size dimensions, super comfy drive, amazing MPG (42+ MPG on highway, 30 in-city. Sure beats the heck out of Monroney sticker posted numbers!)
Very decent power at get-go, low-speeds, and stop and go. At low speeds engine feels like V6 due to all that technology: intake/exchaust variable valve timing and all that (heh, do I hear Baby Lexus !!). I wish it had 5 speed tranny - it sure woulda posted a Hybrid matching/beating MPG numbers !!
Coming from Avalon, only thing we miss: the power of V6, between 45-65 mph speeds when loaded with people/luggage. But this sure tops in MPG department. This almost matches Avalon in Quietness and smoothness.
JBL system is a hoot!
Wish we've gotten fancier wheels, rather than hub-caps, but we can always purchace after-market after factory tires wear-out.
In our hood, and in extended family - we have over FOUR 2009 Corolla LE, XLE models, all of'em are getting closer to my posted mileage. I see some postings indicating drastically lesser MPG figures, afraid those are squatters or working for Corolla competetion. Their well-below MPG claims sound alarmingly disingenuous - or they must be driving in beach sand or something (for enthusiasts, Daytona beach among other beaches allows driving on the beach!)
Peace now!
Sam-E"

"I traded an 04 Corolla CE for the 09 Corolla LE. I've had this car for about three months and have put 1800 miles on it. The volume knob on the radio stopped working today for some reason. I took it to the dealership, and they ordered a new radio without hesitating. I'm getting 34.5 mpg with mixed city/highway driving. I like the driving position, the brightness of the headlights at night, and the trip computer. Suggested improvements include better quality interior fabric and move the clock to the center of the dash. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this car!"

"Purchased the 2009 Corolla S 3 weeks ago and just got back from vacation. We put on 3600 miles and averaged 36+ mpg using the air conditioner full time with a full load of beach gear and suit cases. This car rides nice, looks sharp, and is fun to drive. One suggestion for new owners, armor-all the interior."

"We were a little nervous about downsizing from a large SUV to the Corolla, especially with our family of five, but now we're glad we made the switch. The car handles well, I've put about 1600 miles on the car, and currently I'm getting around 43 mpg (with no air, 60-65 mpg, 33 mpg with air) on the highway, and about 28-30 in the city. My family of five fits snug but comfortably. It's a snazzy little car too, with the updated front end and spoiler. My only complaint is that the clock is not easily viewable. You have to cycle through the mpg gauge to view it, so it's sort of a pain. Other than that, I love this little car!"

"This car is so fun to drive and has better gas milage than my older Camry. The only thing I do not like is that the grill is black and it gets dirty easily which ruins the lok of the car a bit. It also gets really hot in the car. This probably means that insulation is poor. However, the gas milage appeals to me. I get 31.6 in my mixed city and highway driving. The seats are a bit hard and uncomfortable but they might soften later on.I love to drive this car because you get that smile on your face like when you pass all the other cars on the highway. That is the feeling I get with this car."

"I was the proud owner of a 2007 Toyota Tacoma...until gas spiked over $3/gallon. I loved my truck, but my 80 mile per day commute to work at about 19.5 mpg was killing me. After a lot of research and a completely open mind, I decided on a Corolla S. I have had it for a week now, put about 600 miles on it so far.
Complaints: The electronic steering was hard to get used to at first, especially in windy conditions, but it's better now. My roommate drove it and said that she couldn't tell a difference, so maybe it was just me. I have a three-year-old, and the car seat was a bit of a pain to put in compared to my truck. The clock is under the tachometer (or speedometer, I can't remember) so no one else in the car can see it, and you have to push a button to toggle from the clock, to the mpg estimate, etc. I wish it was in the radio or near the center controls. It doesn't have a little compartment for sunglasses like my truck did.
Likes: It has plenty of get-up for merging or passing. It delivers a suprisingly comfortable ride, and I have hardly noticed the reduction of room from my truck to the Corolla. Other than the sunglass compartment (or lack thereof), there is actually a lot of storage space. I also love that the doors automatically lock as soon as you put it into gear, and unlock when you go into park. You can program which doors unlock, too!
I averaged about 31.5 mpg on my first tank of gas with mostly highway driving. I have been driving at unconstant speeds and a little faster than normal to break the engine in. I'm hoping that the gas mileage gets better when I slow down a bit and the engine gets broken in.
I was very sad to give up my Tacoma, but this little car is growing on me. It is fun to drive, and I'm ecstatic to potentially double the gas mileage I was getting in my truck. I plan to keep this car until the wheels fall off, so hopefully it will last for years to come. Get 'em while you can because dealers are getting less willing to compromise on price."

"I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS CAR!! The XRS model is definitely worth the extra cash: it has a ton of safety features, around 160 HP, a sleek interior, and is very sporty looking. I am so glad that I got the XRS instead of the S model--the XRS is like driving a Camry, it is a very smooth ride and it has great acceleration, whereas the S model does not have the stability bar or as much power. I drove a Honda Civic for four years before switching to my Toyota, and there is no comparison, Toyota is better!"

"I traded in my 99 Camry (best car I've ever owned at the time). I didn't even have buyers remorse after buying this car, its everything I expected, great MPG, comfortable and quick when needed. Its not flashy or pretty but its nice to know that I'm not getting killed by gas prices and that I can get at least 7 years out of it."

"I bought this car a few months ago for the MPG rating. I was willing to give up Comfort for High MPG. I am careful on my driving but the 1.8 L engine does not have the power and response. A month after I bought this car my Wife wanted to look at the Nissan Sentra. Wow that is the car. 29 city and 38 Hwy. Nissan sentra has a 2.0 L engine and a seamless transmission CVT. I will never buy a Toyota again."

"I bought my 09 Corolla LE last March and its actually my 1st car. It's very reliable on my commute from home to work and school and most of all, it saves a lot of gas. Cons odd place for the clock and little bit low on horse power but just about right for everyday commute especially on going up hill. I love this car very much and I never had any problem so far."

"I've had the car 2 weeks now and I am really enjoying it! My first car was a 1979 Corolla, now I have a 2009 Corolla, 30 years later. They sure have changed over the years, much better. Last weekend on the freeway I was averaging 45 mpg! Ordinarily I average around 37mpg between town/hwy. but that was under 1000 miles on the car, so I'm sure it will keep improving. The drawbacks I have noticed are the location of the clock. It should be in the middle. Also, it's taking me a little to adjust to the visibility while backing up. The car is a little higher on the back end than what I'm used to and it's hard to see things that might be lower to the ground. I drove a Miata previously so this car seems much bigger to me. Very comfortable seats, especially with sheepskin covers. I had wanted to test drive a Honda Civic but ended up liking this car and the dealership so much that I just went with Toyota. Love it!"
